Mel Gibson was born on January 3, 1956
in Peeksville, New York, USA. Some sources list
1951 as the birth year. There are 2 versions of his
family's move to Australia in 1968. One is that his
father won a contest on "Jeopardy" and used that
funding to move them. The other is that his opera
singer grandmother had moved from Australia to the
US and when his father, a railroad breakman, was
injured he moved the family of 12 children with the
settlement he received. Mel is 5'9" and is married to
Robyn Moore (in 1980). They have 7 children. Mel
is a devout Catholic as evidenced by his newest
project:"The Passion of the Christ". Mel started
acting because his sister secretly put in an application.
The night before an audition, he got into a fight and
his face was badly beaten. This accident won him the
role.
